PhoreMost is a new-model drug discovery company based in Cambridge, UK: Using its core expertise to open up new ‘druggable’ target space and working with a global network of co-invested academic and industrial collaboration partners, we aim to bring a wide array of novel ‘targeted’ therapies more efficiently to market and pass these cost savings onto patients.

 

Vacancy Description:

Responsible for cell biology laboratory-based tasks, which include sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analysing results. You will provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. You will also benefit from one-to-one coaching and have your own mentor to provide help and advice during your time with Phoremost.

 

Typical work activities

Tasks typically involve:

  • performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations; such tasks will include cell culture, cell-based assays, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques;
  • carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses;
  • record all laboratory work to the agreed company standards.
  • ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced;
  • carrying out experiments and recording data and sometimes interpreting results to present to senior colleagues;
  • keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability;
  • following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks.

Weekly Wage: £210 per week

Working Hours: Mon - Fri - 37.5hrs per week

Ideal Applicant:

18 or over, Motivated, eager to learn. Some Biology experience with common sense and an aim to work in the bioscience industries.

Qualifications required:

5 GCSEs grade A*-C inc Maths, English and Science. A-Level in Biology and/or Chemistry. Good AS Levels/GSCEs in Science essential.

Reality Check:

We are on the outside of Cambridge – so can you get here?

Once trained on specific tasks, the role will involve working under your own initiative at times.
You may have to work overtime occasionally.

Future Prospects:

Because of the technical experience you will gain from working in a laboratory, you will gain skills which many graduates have yet to develop. If you have practical ability and the ability to solve problems there are opportunities for progression.  The role of a Lab Technician can expand into a Research Associate, or a Lab Manager to Operations Manager depending on what way the applicant wants to take it in their future career beyond this position.
