Businesses are invited to showcase their organisation to the future workforce by securing a free stand at the East of England Careers Show on Friday 15th July.
This annual skills and careers event organised by The Skills Service is now in its fourth year and promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Last year over 2,000 young people from across the region attended the event, and the move to the East of England Showground for 2016 provides the capacity to further increase visitor numbers.
The Skills Service is a brokerage service delivered by Opportunity Peterborough and funded by the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to drive economic growth by facilitating effective partnership working between businesses, education and training providers. The Careers Show is a key part of this mission and aims to highlight the wide range of career opportunities on offer, both locally and beyond, and improve the aspirations of young people aged 14 and above.
Steve Bowyer, Chief Executive of Opportunity Peterborough, said: “This is a chance for employers to really showcase what they do to and come face-to-face with their potential future workforce. We continue to hear reports of skills gaps from local businesses and concerns about dealing with an ageing workforce. The Careers Show offers businesses the ideal arena to start addressing this issue now.”
Sue Addison, Skills Lead for The Skills Service, continued: “It’s free to exhibit. All we ask is that exhibitors come equipped with hands on activities to help engage visitors and a willingness to talk to young people about the skills required in different business sectors and the types of roles they could aspire to.”
Exhibitors will be split into eight experience zones to demonstrate the broad range of sectors and different career paths. These are: the Food & Drink Zone, Outdoors Zone, High Tech Zone, Wellbeing Zone, Creative Zone, Lifestyle Zone, Business Zone and Military Zone. The Careers Show relies on sponsorship from local organisations and there are still sponsorship opportunities available, including the option of sponsoring a zone, to help raise your company profile.
