WHAT IS THE SKILLS SERVICE?

Answer: The Skills Service is a national skills brokerage organisation that aims to respond to business needs. By helping to fill skills gaps and develop employability skills in young people, we coordinate activities between businesses, schools and other organisations with access to young people. WHEN AND WHY WAS THE SKILLS SERVICE FOUNDED?

Answer: The Skills Service was founded in April 2011 is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2021. The company was formed to help close the increasing Skills gap and lack of interaction between businesses & young people – you can read more about our history here

Answer: We are a small team of four, with years of combined experience in the education sector:

DO YOU ONLY COVER THE PETERBOROUGH AREA?

Answer: No. In the past we primarily covered Peterborough, Fenland, East Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire, however we now operate a NATIONWIDE support service and sell resources globally

Answer: We are open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and closed weekends and Bank Holidays.

I KEEP SEEING 'SKILLS & 2 SUGARS' MENTIONED ON YOUR WEBSITE. WHAT IS IT?

Answer: Skills & 2 Sugars (sometimes abbreviated to S&2S), is an initiative we recently launched that allows for an informal meeting between yourself and one of our Project, Curriculum and Delivery Managers.

CAN I PURCHASE AN EVENT?

ARE YOU STILL DELIVERING PHYSICAL EVENTS?

Answer: Yes. As of June 21st 2021 The Skills Service will be delivering events in schools, government guidelines permitting. 

We will adhere to each individual education establishments Covid-19 policies and procedures whilst on site

Answer: The Inspire Series is a project for Primary and Secondary schools which focuses on the ‘Future Workforce’ and aims to empower young people at a time when they are facing some tough challenges.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE MEMBERS AREA OF THE WEBSITE AND WHAT DOES IT GIVE ME ACCESS TO? 

Answer: To register as a Skills Service member, click the Login/Register button in the top right hand corner of the website and fill in the short form.

 

We will receive your request and approve it as soon as possible. You will then be able to access your personal members area via the same button. 

Your members area will contain a selection of personalised pages, such as; your profile, order history, event tickets, event wishlists and the ability to update certain records on our website (if applicable)

Answer: We offer 3 levels of subscription packages; 

Ambition - a light touch to enhance your careers programme  

Influence - added value for your careers programme 

Empower - a full package of support for your careers programme

I DON’T HAVE PAYPAL, HOW CAN I PURCHASE AN EVENT, SERVICE OR SUBSCRIPTION? 

Answer: All our services can be purchased offline via the store or by contacting us. Instructions for each type of package are listed below:

For Tailored packages – simply click the service or event that you require to contact us.

For Events and Resources – add the product to the cart and then follow the instructions during checkout to raise a purchase request instead of using PayPal.

For Subscriptions – click on the subscription you wish to purchase and complete the short form. Our finance team will then get back to you asap.

DID YOU REPLACE CONNEXIONS IN PETERBOROUGH?

Answer: No. Connexions are a completely separate company. However, since Connexions in the Peterborough area closed, we have taken on the role of providing advice and support where possible

Answer: Connecting with students is a way of realising the following benefits: 

 

  • The chance to engage with the future workforce and support young people in their career paths

  • A chance to develop your teams skills and also build on your own personal attributes
