Year 13 students at Arthur Mellows Village College in Peterborough were able to get a feel for the skills needed to cope with interviews for future employment. Students compiled CVs and letters to prospective employers in preparation and were then interviewed by a variety of employers for school leaver roles.
The sectors covered were Engineering, Construction, Care, Marketing, Civil Service, IT, Health, Retail, Travel and the Armed Forces.
Each student received constructive feedback with advice on areas to improve. The school commented that “Feedback from staff and students has been exceptional and they are all very, very positive about the day.”
Following on from this event, we are pleased to report that 3 of the students involved in the mock interviews have gone on to secure jobs in the sectors they were interviewed for, including one with an actual employer from the event. Representatives from Kier were so impressed with the candidate that they have recruited him into a full-time position, which is testament to how beneficial these employability sessions can be.
