Year 7 students from Ernulf Academy were treated to a fun and interactive session with a variety local employers where they got to meet professionals from different industries and discover how they got to where they are today and what their different job roles entail.
Volunteers from Kier Construction, Wyboston Lakes, Marriott Hotels, NEACO and Laing O’Rourke supported and were the focus of the students attention.
The session looks at giving students a glimpse into the world of work and the different industries that are out there and the routes you can take to enter into a career in a chosen sector. Telling their back stories, the volunteers were able to engage with students on a fun and informative level, potentially triggering a thought process that the year 7’s may not have had before.
Meet the Professionals is not only a great chance for both employers and students to engage, it also meets Gatsby benchmarks 2, 4 and 5.
Sarah Gallichan an Engineer from Kier Construction said “It was an enjoyable day, engaging with pupils at the beginning of their career journey, starting to get them to think and engage in different job roles in their local community”
In total 120 students got to engage with the businesses and boost their knowledge of LMI and career paths.
