Year 7 students from The Deepings School in South Kesteven took part in a ‘duck production’ manufacturing activity that is designed to encourage enterprise skills and help to develop key workplace skills.
Students were split into teams and asked to assign each team member with a job role that best suited their skills before competing against their peers to see who could make the most profit out of designing and selling paper ducks. Representatives from the YMCA and Coaching4Business kindly supported the event, playing the roles of bankers and buyers and giving students valuable real-life contact with local employers.
This challenge develops key skills such as teamwork, leadership, negotiation and problem-solving.
Feedback from the students was that the event was a lot of fun. One of the students commented: “It is really fun and interesting. It helps you develop further life skills and it helps you communicate and work with people you normally wouldn’t.”
