Duck Production

Today we visited the fantastic NeneGate school to work with students from all year groups on the Duck production enterprise activity.

Set up into four teams the students worked out job roles between themselves and who would have particular responsibilities in order to successfully run their mock business. Once a Manager, Buyer of raw materials, Sales exec, QC and Production roles had been decided they cracked on enthusiastically to produce their paper ducks to be sold to our ‘Duck Trading’ company buyers which was made up of our local business volunteers – Victor Sacks, Owner of VS Associates and Pav Patel a local entrepreneur.

Using their start up loans of paper money the teams bought materials from our pop up shop and created wonderful and imaginative ducks to trade. Using teamwork, communication and negotiation skills and cash handling each team worked over a mock week competing to make as much profit as possible, with bonuses given for new ideas, teamwork, listening and general enterprise skills.

It was an excellent activity and was great to see all the students getting involved and really taking to the task. The amount of initiative on show was brilliant to watch and you could see everyone getting something positive out of it.

Seeing the students engaging with and really enjoying the haggling with the business volunteers you could tell their confidence was growing all the time and it is obvious this is a valuable experience for them, and one which they would hopefully build upon.

Victor Sacks said, “Its a brilliant idea and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching them haggle and negotiate. I truly hope this exercise helps them develop in their future years.”
