As part of the transition programme for students at the brand new Littleport and East Cambs Academy, we delivered the ‘Duck Production’ Enterprise Challenge to Year 7’s, which aims to encourage entrepreneurship and develop key employability skills.
Over 80 students were randomly grouped into teams to form their own manufacturing company, deciding between themselves which team members should take on the role of accountant, buyer, sales executive, chief executive or production workers. They then had to work together over a virtual five day working week to produce paper ducks before negotiating sales with a team of buyers. The teams were in competition with each other to see who could make the most profit.
The event was supported by representatives from JDR Cable Systems and Emerald Frog Marketing, both based in Littleport. They acted as buyers, giving students valuable interactions with the local business community at an early age.
Ian Arnold, Process Engineer from JDR said:
“It was great interacting with the students and passing on my experiences. I was really impressed with how the students engaged with each other and worked as a team to achieve the objectives. I can’t wait to come back again!”
This activity helps to develop key skills in team working, leadership, negotiation and problem solving.
