A group of Year 9 students from Ken Stimpson Community School in Peterborough were challenged to build up a business idea by designing a product, thinking of ways to market it effectively and manage resources, before pitching the idea to a panel of ‘Dragons’.
The activity is designed to encourage enterprise and build skills in teamwork, problem solving, communication, leadership, financial awareness and presentation skills.
Graduates working for British Sugar supported the event and the winning team will be visiting a British Sugar site shortly for a workplace tour.
Jennifer Duffy from British Sugar commented that the event was “a very engaging (for both the children and myself!) and well run event. It was particularly nice to see the childrens’ confidence build throughout the morning as they settled into the event and by the end every child stood up and took part in a profession sales pitch to a large audience, which every single one of them can be proud of.”
